PHILADELPHIA —The
James A. Michener Museum in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, and
The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) in Philadelphia have created a joint exhibition of one of the most significant and decorated American artists of his generation with “Daniel Garber: Romantic Realist.” During the first two decades of the 20th century, Garber became noted for a series of paintings of local quarries that transformed landscapes disfigured by industry into serene and glowing scenes. The exhibition is divided between the two organizations chronologically, with PAFA's show examining the period of his early work between 1897 and 1929 (through April 8), and the Michener’s exhibition showing works between 1930 through 1955 (through May 6). Both organizations also offer special lectures and programs. The joint exhibition is sponsored by
The Lenfest Foundation.
